At Exclusive Mirrors we understand if you have recently purchased a new mirror you want it to remain looking in pristine condition. That’s why we have put together a guide on how to clean your mirrors correctly. Many people believe cleaning a mirror is an easy task however it is not just a case of simple soap and water.

If you don’t clean your mirror properly using the correct technique you can be left with nasty streaks and smudges or even leftover dirt. A mirror is often the focal point of many rooms and will fail to reflect the light correctly if it has smears and streaks.

For many people when cleaning a mirror it can be frustrating when you have tried your best efforts yet are still left with streaks and specks on the mirror. There are many methods you can use to clean your mirror ensuring it is left sparkling with no streaks or fog left behind.  Follow the 5 simple steps in this guide which can help restore you mirror to its former glory.

1.Make your own cleaning solution Many people are under the impression that a window cleaner will successfully clean your mirror, however the majority of the time you are left with a misty fog on your mirror due to the harsh chemicals used in these products. The best way to combat this is to create your own. Making your own cleaning solution takes a matter of seconds, all you require is distilled vinegar combined with some warm water.

2.Use the correct materials When it comes to cleaning your mirror choosing the correct material to clean with is essential. If you are able to get hold of one a microfiber cloth is ideal as it is soft and non-abrasive therefore ensuring it will not scratch the surface of your mirror. Although it may seem like an odd material newspaper is infact perfect for cleaning your mirror. Just take a piece of newspaper and crumple it in your hand to create a cleaning cloth.  You will be able to buff up your mirror using the newspaper after you have finished cleaning, this offers a beautiful streak free shine.

3. Apply Warm Water If your mirrors aren’t too dirty you should look to clean them with warm water. You can clean up your mirrors in a matter of second just use the microfiber cloth and apply warm water and gently rub in circular motions (this will help avoid smears). If you mirror looks like it could use a deeper clean you should look to use the cleaning solution you have created. Initially you should clean the mirror with plain warm water. This will help remove any hard dirt and smudges.

4. Apply the cleaning solution You should then use the vinegar based cleaning solution. Dip your cloth in the solution and rub the mirror in circular motions. Ensure you do the whole mirror even right up into the corners and edges.

5.Buff the mirror Go over the mirror with your crumpled newspaper. Again use circular motions to buff up the mirror. Make sure you dry any drip marks on the mirror as these could leave your mirror with unpleasant streaks.

You should now be left with a gleaming mirror that looks in immaculate condition. We hope you have found this information useful, look out for more helpful guides on our blog.
